DETROIT, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's soccer team opened up Horizon League play this afternoon, taking on Detroit in the Motor City at Titan Field. The Titans (4-4-0) wasted no time finding the back of the net and scored three goals in the first 45 minutes of play before adding a pair in the second half to hand Green Bay (2-6-0) a 5-0 defeat to start the 2015 league slate.
Green Bay struggled to keep up with the high-powered offense of Detroit, only recording a single shot on goal in the first half of play. Detroit, however, turned in its strongest half of play this season, matching its season-high in goals scored (3) in the first 45 minutes of play.
Detroit went on to add another two goals in the second half to defeat the Phoenix 5-0 in the Horizon League opener.
Heidi Hartmann led the offensive attack for Green Bay with a trio of shots, placing one on the mark and forcing a save from the Titans' keeper to preserve the clean sheet.
Green Bay will now turn its attention to its matchup with Eastern Michigan on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
