DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer team continued league play this evening at Wright State, taking on the Raiders at Alumni Field and working towards a 0-0 draw. The Phoenix held the Horizon League-leading offense to no goals on the night, handing the Raiders' offense just its second shutout of the season.
The Green Bay defense earned its second clean sheet of the season in tonight's contest against the Raiders, a team that is averaging a league-leading mark of 1.56 goals per game. The defensive effort was led by Green Bay goalkeeper Kyle Ihn, who protected the net for all 110 minutes and recorded five saves in order to secure the shutout.
The Green Bay offense was able to keep pace with Wright State for the majority of the match, firing off eight shots on the night and placing four of them on goal. Audi Jepson directed the Phoenix attack on Saturday night, as the junior midfielder tallied three shots in the contest and placed two of them on the mark.
In the most recent poll done by Topdrawersoccer.com, the Wright State Raiders secured the 20th spot in the nation. In addition, the squad also claimed the fifth spot in the most recent Great Lakes Region weekly poll released Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Five Phoenix players tallied shots in the matchup with Raiders, with four of them placing at least one of them on the mark.
The Green Bay men's soccer team will have a relatively quick turnaround to its next competition, heading to Madison, Wis., on Wednesday for a duel with in-state rival Wisconsin.
