SOUTH BEND, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay women's basketball team fell just shy of upsetting the top-ranked team in the country this evening, as the Phoenix fell 71-67 at No. 1/1 Notre Dame in the Preseason WNIT Semifinals. Junior Jessica Lindstrom enjoyed a career night at the Purcell Pavilion and scored 20 points to pair with 16 rebounds in 39 minutes.
The Phoenix offense got off to a slow start against the strong Fighting Irish defense, trailing by 11 points as both teams headed to the locker room. Green Bay played even for the most part with Notre Dame in the third quarter and found itself down by 12 heading into the fourth.
The Phoenix began chipping away at the fighting Irish's lead and made it a five-point game with 3:41 to play after Lindstrom knocked down a jumper. Notre Dame managed to hang on and advance to the Preseason WNIT Championship on Sunday, defeating Green Bay 71-67.
Mehryn Kraker finished 5-for-11 from the field and added 14 points, four assists, three steals and a block in 38 minutes. Jen Wellnitz scored nine points on the evening, and Sam Terry and Allie LeClaire each added seven.
The Phoenix will now head to Tennessee for matchups with Belmont and Chattanooga next week, both of which were NCAA Tournament participants last season.
