Kanter Scores 20-Straight Points But Green Bay Loses in Shootout

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's basketball team scored a season-high 97 points on Tuesday night at Central Michigan, but it wasn't enough as the hot-shooting Chippewas came away with the 107-97 victory to earn the season sweep in the rare nonconference rematch. The Phoenix (4-5) saw five players finish in double figures, highlighted by Kerem Kanter's career-high 23 points that included a stretch where he scored 20-consecutive points for Green Bay.

From the 13:55 mark in the second half until a Turner Botz' three-pointer at 8:12, Kanter scored every single point for the Phoenix, an astonishing run and statistic.

Four other players joined Kanter in double-figures, led by Charles Cooper's 16 points. Jamar Hurdle added 14 points in his second-straight game as a starter, while Khalil Small and Trevor Anderson both chipped in with 12.

Green Bay shot over 50 percent (38-for-75) in the contest, but was just 4-for-20 from 3-point range. Kanter finished 11-for-13 from the free throw line and 6-for-10 from the field, recording a new career-high in another strong performance in just 19 minutes of action. Kanter scored 17 points against Toledo in his team's overtime victory on Saturday.

The Phoenix came within one when Anderson buried a 3 late in the game, but Braylon Rayson (30 points) and the Central Michigan attack couldn't be stopped.

Green Bay scored 58 of its points in the paint and 17-for-23 from the charity stripe.

Central Michigan was sparked by the nation's leading scorer, Marcus Keene. Keene took over late in the game and scored 40 points on six made three-points. He also went 10-for-11 at the free throw line.
