DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Senior Sammi Grunder (Pardeeville, Wis.), made a final-round push into the top five at the Lady EagleCat Invitational on Tuesday. The Green Bay women's golfer fired a one-over par 74 to climb from 11th place to a tie for fifth, finishing on the All-Tournament Team.
Grunder's final round was six strokes better than her first-round 80. All golfers who finished tied for fifth or better made the All-Tournament Team, with six players total earning that honor. This was Grunder's second consecutive top-five finish, as the senior placed third at the Whistling Straits Intercollegiate to close out the 2015 fall campaign last October.
Junior Avery Steen (Luck, Wis.), claimed a top-50 finish, tying for 48th with rounds of 85 and 86. The Phoenix finished in 11th place in the 14-team field.
The tournament in Florida was the first action of the 2016 spring season for Green Bay. The Phoenix will return to competition the first weekend in April when it travels to Peoria, Ill. to take part in the Bradley Invitational April 2-3.
