GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – On the same day it broke into the top 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Green Bay (16-2, 7-0) women's basketball team dominated Valparaiso (5-13, 0-7), 56-35, to pick up its eight-straight win and stay perfect in Horizon League play.
Jen Wellnitz paced the Phoenix in the victory with 15 points, a mark that tied her career high set earlier in the season at South Dakota State. Ten of Wellnitz' 15 points came in the first 6:15 of play as she helped Green Bay get out to an 18-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Freshman Caitlyn Hibner also turned in a productive night, tying her career high of 10 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting effort in 21 minutes. Hibner also grabbed five boards, handed out one assist and collected a steal.
Madison Wolf nearly notched the first double-double of her Phoenix career, scoring eight points and pulling down nine rebounds in 25 minutes.
Green Bay dominated the battle in the paint, allowing the Crusaders just two points while pouring in 22 of its own. The Phoenix bench was also a high point on the evening, scoring 22 points compared to Valparaiso's four.
The Phoenix will continue Horizon League play this Saturday with Milwaukee at the Kress Events Center at 1 p.m.
