  • The team beat Youngstown State earlier this year on the road, 90-77.
  • Green Bay is now tied with Valparaiso for first place in the Horizon League at 5-1.
  • The Phoenix dropped its 8th-straight game at Valpo on Monday night.
  • Green Bay ranks 127 in the NCAA RPI, which is second-best in the Horizon League trailing only Valparaiso, which is ranked 62.
  • Head coach Linc Darner has started Trevor AndersonKhalil SmallTurner BotzKerem Kanter and Kenneth Lowe for seven-straight games now.

RECENT OUTING

Green Bay had a tough outing at Valparaiso on Monday night, as the Crusaders would not be denied at home. The Phoenix shot just 31 percent (22-for-71) from the field, it's second-lowest shooting percentage of the season. It scored a season-low 56 points and also attempted a season-low nine free throws. Valpo meanwhile shot 46.4 percent and made nine 3s. The loss created a tie for first place with Green Bay and Valparaiso both sitting at 5-1 in Horizon League play, while snapping a seven-game winning streak by the Phoenix that lasted over a month. Jamar Hurdle scored 11 points to lead Green Bay and Kenneth Lowe added 10.

HOME COOKING

The Phoenix has won six of its seven games at home this year and hasn't lost at home since Nov. 26. Green Bay is averaging 85.9 PPG in front of its home crowd and is enjoying a +15.1 scoring margin in those seven games. A total of six players are averaging in double figures in home games this year, led by Jamar Hurdle with 13.3 PPG. Charles Cooper (13.2 PPG), Kerem Kanter (10.8 PPG), Khalil Small (10.6 PPG), Trevor Anderson (10.4 PPG) and Warren Jones (10.3 PPG) are all scoring 10-plus points per game at the Resch Center. The team is averaging 10.9 steals per game at home and 5.9 blocks. Green Bay will play two more league games at home when it hosts Youngstown State and Cleveland State.

BLACKOUT CANCER

Green Bay and Prevea Health will once again partner for the annual Black Out Cancer Game. The team will wear black uniforms and there will be a black youth jersey giveaway, courtesy of Prevea Health. Last year, the game raised over $8,000 that benefitted Families of Children with Cancer. There will be a Dash for Cash as black bags will be passed around the arena for cash donations, with all proceeds going to the Ribbon of Hope. The annual game has turned into a success and great opportunity to raise money for a great cause.

BOUNCING BACK

Since the start of the 2013-14 season, Green Bay has only lost back-to-back Horizon League games one time. Last year the Phoenix dropped a road contest at Valparaiso and then fell at home to Oakland, the top two teams in the Horizon League standings at the end of last season. The team went 5-1 last year and is a combined 11-1 since the 2013-14 season in games after a Horizon League loss. Friday will be the first time this season Green Bay will be playing a league game following a loss.

PENGUIN PAST

The Phoenix has enjoyed recent success against Youngstown State, having won eight of the last nine games. Green Bay hasn't lost at home to the Penguins since March 4, 2003, and that loss serves as the lone defeat in the entire all-time series. GB is 19-1 at home since the first meeting in 1993 and is 32-9 (.780) all-time against YSU. Green Bay lost at Youngstown last year, which snapped a streak of six-straight wins in the series, but bounced back by winning 90-77 on New Year's Eve in Youngstown this season. The Phoenix has won the last three meetings against the Penguins at home by an average of 16.0 points.
