GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's soccer team took the pitch against a strong Northern Kentcuky team on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Norse 3-1 at the NKU Soccer Complex. NKU scored the first two goals of the match before senior Alex Zeller found the back of the net in the 32nd minute to cut the deficit in half, but the Norse would go on to score its next goal just over a minute later to head into halftime with a 3-1 advantage.
Neither team was able to get past the other's defense in the second half of play as the Phoenix went on to fall 3-1.
Green Bay will return to Aldo Santaga Stadium on Wednesday for its final home match of the season as the squad welcome league-foe UIC for a 7 p.m. tilt.
GOAL SUMMARY
8' | NKU | Macy Hamblin (Assists: Ally Perkins, Jessica Frey): Hamblin gave the Norse the lead in the eighth minute off a cross played in by Perkins from the left side, allowing her to head the ball to the left lower corner of the net.
17' | NKU | Jessica Frey (Assists: Payton Naylor, Macy Hamblin): Naylor played a cross on the ground, Frey secured it, and fired a shot to the right lower corner. Hamblin was also credited with an assist.
32' | GB | Alex Zeller (Unassisted): Zeller secured the ball off of a deflection and was able to fire a shot in the upper right corner of the net to beat the keeper. It is her third goal in two games.
42' | NKU | Macy Hamblin (Assist: Shawna Zaken): Zaken passed the ball to Hamblin in the middle of the box, and she beat the Green Bay goalkeeper to give the Norse a 3-1 advantage.
