ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Green Bay volleyball team was able to force a fifth set after trailing 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Oakland, but ultimatley fell 15-10 in the fifth at the O'Rena in its bid for its third-straight win. The Phoenix (10-11, 6-4 HL) rallied to win the fourth set 25-21, but the Golden Grizzlies (12-10, 7-3 HL) would not be denied on their home court in the final frame.
Oakland, which lost Milwaukee on Friday night in five sets, jumped out to a 5-2 and eventual 12-6 lead in the fifth set. GB was able to come within four at 12-8, but a service error and an Oakland kill ended the possibility of a 2-0 start to Green Bay's four-match road swing.
Junior
Jessica Wolf racked up a season-high 22 kills in the effort, besting her previous high of 16 set last weekend.
Taylor Wolf added 14 kills and
Lydia DeWeese contributed 11 kills of her own.
Taylor Totka added six blocks on the defensive side of the net, her second-highest total this season.
Setter
Maddie Yoss picked up her sixth 50-plus assist performance of the year, totaling 50 in the five set defeat.
Vanessa Buman and
Austyn Everingham combined for 23 digs defensively.
The Phoenix will play two more road matches next weekend, visiting UIC (Friday) and Milwaukee (Saturday).
