INDIANAPOLIS, Ind – The Green Bay volleyball team dropped its second-straight match in Horizon League play on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 at IUPUI in Indianapolis to slip into second place in the league standings. The Phoenix (8-9, 4-2 HL) won the opening set, but the Jaguars (9-10, 5-1 HL) rallied to take the next three and pick up their fifth HL win of the season, taking over sole possession of first place in the process.
Green Bay used a 5-0 run midway through the first set, taking a commanding 22-13 set lead. After IUPUI responded,
Lydia DeWeese was able to record the set-winning kill and give her squad the 25-18 victory.
IUPUI, now winners of three-straight and five of its last six, scored five of the final seven points late in the second set to win 25-22. All seven points came from kills, with IUPUI taking the final two after leading 23-22. The Jaguars cruised in the third set after the intermission, jumping out to a 12-2 lead and running away with the 25-11 set win to go up 2-1.
The Jaguars finished things off in the fourth set, using a match-clinching 6-0 run to win 25-19 after the two teams were tied at 19-19. Green Bay had three errors during that run and burned a timeout to try and stop the momentum, but IUPUI would not be denied.
Lydia DeWeese led the Phoenix with 13 kills, while
Jessica Wolf (13) and
Roberta Todd (12) also added double-figure kills. With Maddie Yoss not present,
Taylor Wolf controlled the offense and racked up 46 assists.
Green Bay will return home next weekend for matches against Cleveland State (Friday) and Northern Kentucky (Saturday). Friday's match against the Vikings will serve as the team's annual Dig Pink game with first serve set for 6 p.m. at the Kress Center.
