ADVANCING TO THE SHIP
Audi Jepson found the back of the net twice in the semifinals and fellow first-team selection, Tomer Zloczower, scored once as the Phoenix secured a 3-1 win over No. 6 Detroit Mercy. The win earned Green Bay a spot in the Horizon League Tournament Championship game for the first time since the 2011. The only time in program history Green Bay has walked off the field with the tournament crown was in 2009, which is also the team's only NCAA Tournament appearance. With a win on Saturday afternoon over the Flames, GB would punch its ticket to the 2017 NCAA Division I Soccer Tournament. The Phoenix will look to beat UIC when it matters most, having lost 3-1 at Flames Field back on Oct. 7, the only loss GB suffered in HL play all season.
OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
Audi Jepson has been a consistent force in Green Bay's attack all season long and ranks among the league leaders in points, goals, assists and game-winning goals. The senior has a total of four game-winners through the nine-game league season. Jepson ranks second in assists with five only to teammate Tomer Zloczower who has tallied six. As a team, the Phoenix enters the tournament second in goals and assists. Green Bay has outscored its league opponents 17 goals to nine this season.
HOW WE GOT HERE
Green Bay closed out the season with the best mark in Horizon League play in the program's history at 7-1-1, earning the top seed in the tournament and a bye to the semifinals. The seven wins in the league season is a new program best, with the Phoenix never before reaching the milestone in the Horizon League era.
GREEN BAY HONORED BY LEAGUE
The Horizon League announced its all-league awards on Monday afternoon, with the Phoenix being well-represented on the respective teams. Head Coach
Jeremy Bonomo was named the league's Coach of the Year,
Audi Jepson received Offensive Player of the Year honors and
Tomer Zloczower (First team),
Buran Huseini (Second Team),
Marcos Bautista (Second Team) and
Adam Mansa (All-Freshman Team) were named to all-league teams.
