Volleyball Climbs Back to Force Fifth Set at Cleveland State Before Falling 15-11

CLEVELAND, Ohio. --- After coming back to force a fifth set in a tough environment on the road, the Green Bay volleyball team came up just short regular season champion Cleveland State on Friday night, falling 15-11 in the fifth set in Horizon League action. The Phoenix (12-14, 8-7 HL) got behind 2-0 after losing the first two sets 25-19 and 25-16, before using the intermission to recover and take the next two sets 25-23 and 25-21, creating the dramatic fifth set. The host Vikings (20-7, 13-3 HL) would take the final set, clinching the regular season championship and the right to host the tournament championship next weekend.

Green Bay followed a CSU 3-0 run in the fifth set with its own 3-0 run, finding itself behind 12-11 before the Vikings called a timeout. Immediately following the TO, a bad serve and back-to-back kills ended the Phoenix's rally and hopes for the road win. GB also lost in five sets to Cleveland State earlier this season and has now lost six of its seven league defeats in five sets.

Maddie Yoss set a career-high 69 assists, which also ranks as the fifth-most assists in a match in program history. Yoss also had 11 digs, recording her third-straight double-double in the effort.

Freshman Taylor Wolf also set a career-high in kills, racking up 23 over the five sets, while also finishing with 16 digs for her third-straight double-double. Jessica Wolf was second on the team with 17 kills and Lydia DeWeese added 16.

Green Bay will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Northern Kentucky tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. CT The Phoenix has already secured a spot in next weekend's Horizon League Tournament and will own either the No. 4, No. 5 or No. 6 seed.
