LAST MATCH
For the first time in its proud program history, the Green Bay men's soccer team can call themselves Horizon League Champions. The Phoenix needed 106 minutes to get there against visiting Belmont last weekend, but senior
Audi Jepson came through once again with the game-winner on the perfect assist from fellow-senior
Cody Newton and
Marcos Bautista, earning the 1-0 win at Aldo Santaga Stadium on a cold Senior Night under the lights.
With construction underway on a new soccer complex, it was the last match ever to be played at the current Aldo Santaga Stadium. It's safe to say the Phoenix put on quite a show for the final pairing and paid tribute to a field that has enjoyed a rich history by clinching at least a share of the Horizon League Regular Season Title.
JEPSON EARNS SECOND PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
Audi Jepson secured his second Horizon League Player of the Week award, as announced by the league office on Monday morning, after netting the double-overtime game-winner in the 106th minute against Belmont this past Saturday. With the win, Green Bay secured at least a share of its first-ever Horizon League Regular Season Championship. Jepson now has nine goals and 23 points on the season, both marks rank atop the Horizon League's individual statistics.
A LOOK AT THE NORSE
NKU is 7-5-4 this season and 3-3-2 in League play. The Norse are averaging 1.12 goals per match, while allowing them at an average of 1.00 per contest. When scoring first in a match, NKU is 7-0 this season. The Norse are also 6-0 when having a lead at the half. Tom Suchecki and Rikard Lindqvist each have four goals and two assists on the season for 10 points. Jim Barkei has protected the net for the Norse in 2017. Barkei's goals against average is just 0.84, and he has a 0.803 save percentage on the season. He has recorded eight shutouts during the campaign, which ranks first in the Horizon League and ninth in NCAA Division I.
