GREEN BAY, Wis. - After coming back to force a fifth set, the Green Bay volleyball team came up just short to visiting IUPUI, falling 15-13 in the fifth set at the Kress Center in Horizon League action. The Phoenix (11-13, 7-6 HL) won the first and fourth sets, but the league-leading Jaguars (14-12, 10-3 HL) made a couple of big kills late in the fifth set to escape with the road win.
The fifth set was back and forth all the way to a 10-9 lead for GB in the fifth set, all before IUPUI went on a 4-0 run to take a 13-10 lead. Despite the Phoenix using both timeouts to stop the run, the Jaguars would go ahead 14-11 before GB won back to back points to make things interesting. An attack that sailed past the end line ended the hope for the Phoenix, falling 15-13 and moving to 7-6 in Horizon League play.
Green Bay trailed 2-1 after winning the first set 25-17, when IUPUI won 25-20 in the second set and 25-17 in the third. The third 25-17 scoreline of the match came when the Phoenix controlled the majority of the fourth set and forced a dramatic fifth.
Jessica Wolf led the Phoenix with 19 kills, while her younger sister
Taylor Wolf accounted for another 17 kills and 22 digs, notching her 8th double-double.
Lydia DeWeese added 13 kills in the effort and three blocks.
Maddie Yoss racked up a season-high 58 assists and 17 digs, recording her 10th double-double of the year.
Green Bay will honor its three seniors,
Lydia DeWeese,
Abby Jeffcoat and
Taylor Totka tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Wright State at the Kress Center. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
