Green Bay Cruises to Victory at Loyola, Improves to 8-1 on Season

CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team displayed a total team effort as the squad locked down Loyola, 76-39, on the road to improve to 8-1 on the season.

Although the Ramblers were the first on the board on Sunday afternoon at Gentile Arena, the game was all Green Bay from the moment it tipped off. After allowing the first basket of the game, the Phoenix defense got locked in and finished off the opening period with a 23-2 run.

The Ramblers were held scoreless over the final 5:11 of the first, a timeframe that saw Green Bay score 17 unanswered points. The Ramblers had an answer for the Phoenix run early in the second, but were unable to sustain its attack and headed into halftime down 40-20.

Jessica Lindstrom secured her fourth double-double of the season by halftime, having scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in 16 minutes of first-half action.

The second half saw more of the same from the Phoenix on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor, outscoring the Ramblers 36-19 to pick up its eighth win of the season, 76-39, and wrap up this week's road trip with a 2-0 record.

Green Bay improves to 45-5 against the former Horizon League foe and notched its 11th-straight win over the Ramblers in the all-time series.

The 76 points scored by the Phoenix in the victory was a season best and the defense held its third opponent this year to less than 40 points.

Frankie Wurtz led the scoring efforts for Green Bay with a career-high 16 points. The guard went 6-for-10 from the field and pulled down five rebounds in 22 minutes. Karly Murphy also turned in a career-high mark in points on the afternoon, adding 14 to the Phoenix tally on a 7-for-10 effort from the field in 24 minutes.

Lindstrom finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes, and fellow senior Allie LeClaire scored 10 points, corralled four rebounds and doled out three assists in 24 minutes.

Green Bay finished with a shooting percentage above 50% for the third time this season, going 31-59 (53%) from the field while holding Loyola to just 13-51 (25%).

Like it has all season, Green Bay dominated the boards this afternoon and finished with a 44-26 advantage over the Ramblers. The Phoenix held advantages in second-chance points (13-5), bench points (23-8), points in the paint (46-12) and fast-break points (4-0).

Green Bay will have nearly a full week off before returning to the court for official action, as the team welcomes Bradley to the Kress Center on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m.
