LAST TIME OUT
Green Bay led for nearly three-quarters of the game on Sunday at Detroit Mercy, before falling in the final seconds on and-one finish to lose by one at 93-92. The team was looking for the Detroit area sweep following its impressive road win over Oakland on Friday night, but too many turnovers and the inside presence of Jaleel Hogan (28 points) was too much to overcome. It was the first Green Bay hast lost to Detroit Mercy since January of 2013. The Phoenix shot a season-high 60.8 percent from the field and had four players in double figures, but also committed a season-high 21 turnovers.
SCORING J0NE$
Senior Warren Jones has become the team's No. 2 scoring option in Horizon League play, averaging 10.5 PPG in those 10 games (ranks 28th in Horizon League) and reaching double-figures in six of his last seven. Jones is leading the league in 3-point field goal percentage at 56.3 percent (18-for-32) and has made multiple 3s in six league games this year. In his last four games alone, the guard is averaging 14.3 PPG and has seen his season average rise in each of those games as well, now sitting on 9.9 PPG. Jones also ranks 10th in Horizon League in field goal percentage (50.8 percent) and ninth in free throw percentage (78.1 percent).
LEAGUE LEADERS
With a game over the halfway point of the Horizon League season now complete, Green Bay leads the league in scoring with 80.4 PPG and is the only team in the top three in that category with a winning record. The Phoenix has scored 80 or more points in seven of its 10 league games this year. Green Bay also leads the HL in blocks (6.1 blocks per game), steals (8.7 steals per game) and offensive rebounds (12.3 per game). The team is currently in second place in the Horizon League with a 7-3 record, trailing Valparaiso's 8-1 record. Those two teams will meet on Saturday afternoon.
LAST HL OPPONENT
Green Bay has faced every Horizon League team this season except UIC, and has already played both meetings against Cleveland State and Youngstown State. The Phoenix has gone 33-14 all-time at home against the Flames, and owns a 58-36 all-time edge in the series dating back to the first meeting 1971. Green Bay has won eight-straight games against UIC and has not lost at home to them since 2004. The Flames will enter the game with a .500 record, having improved dramatically over the past few seasons and will tough task for the Phoenix to remain hot against.
4 WITH 10 OR MORE
Green Bay has four players averaging 10.0 PPG or more in Horizon League play, led by Charles Cooper's 15.1 PPG. Warren Jones has seen his average rise to 10.5 PPG, while Khalil Small (10.4 PPG) and Kerem Kanter have (10.0 PPG) been putting up big games. The Phoenix is one of four teams in the HL to have four or more players averaging in double figures (Wright State, Detroit Mercy, NKU) in league games. Green Bay also has nine players averaging 16 minutes per game or more.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE
For the first time all season, two players on Green Bay recorded a double-double in the same game. Kerem Kanter and Kenneth Lowe registered huge nights in the paint, combining for 28 points and 25 rebounds on Friday night at Oakland. It marked the fourth double-double of the season for Kanter, while Lowe recorded the first such performance in his career. The Phoenix is now 4-0 when Kanter notches a double-double. Charles Cooper is the only other player to tally a double-double this season, with the team now having six on the season. Kanter's four lead the way, with Lowe and Cooper each with one.
