GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer team will open the 2017 campaign this Friday at home as the squad welcomes Eastern Illinois to Aldo Santaga Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Following the matchup with the Panthers, the Phoenix will face off with another team from Illinois, hosting Western Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Green Bay men's soccer team took the field for a pair of exhibition matchups last week, finishing 0-1-1 in the preseason against in-state rival Marquette and a quality Big Ten team in Michigan.

Head coach Jeremy Bonomo and assistant coach John O'Reilly will be going into their third year with the program, adding eight newcomers to the squad for the upcoming season. More information on the additions can be found HERE.

Green Bay brings back 14 players from 2016, led by seniors Audi Jepson, Emmanuel Ekunseitan, and Cody Newton. Jepson will play for the Phoenix as a redshirt senior, after spending the 2016 season recovering from injury. He took to the field this past summer with Seacoast United of the PDL, making an impression by earning a spot in the nation's Top 50 Prospects.

More talent returns in the form of sophomores Andre Baires and Zloczower. Baires was the sole Green Bay player recognized by the Horizon League in 2016. The defender was named to both the All-Horizon League Second Team as well as the all-freshman Team for finishing the season with two goals scored and a shots-on-goal percentage of .700, the best mark on the team. Both Baires and Zloczower tallied two goals scored last year, tying for the top spot on the squad.

This year's season includes seven home games at the Aldo Santaga Stadium, with four of those being Horizon League matchups
