GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer team opened the regular season at home this evening as the squad welcomed Eastern Illinois to the friendly confines of Aldo Santaga Stadium. Green Bay managed to get on the board first after
Ian Smith found the Panthers' net in the 40th minute but a goal in the 84th minute from Eastern Illinois' Alessandro Corti would even the match and ultimately force a draw.
The Phoenix owned a 14-8 advantage in shots taken and a 4-3 edge in on-goal attempts. Green Bay's offense also forced four corner kicks compared to EIU's three. A total of eight different Phoenix member recorded a shot in the season opener, with
Tomer Zloczower and
Michael Carreon leading the way with three apiece.
There were six yellow cards distributed in the match, with each squad receiving three.

Ian Smith (Unassisted): Smith was able to gather a ball that was being deflected around the box in the middle of the field and after one touch, a shot to the lower right of the net garnered the Phoenix a 1-0 advantage and recorded the first goal of its early season.
84' | EIU | Alessandro Cordi (Assist: Zach Medawattage): After a Panthers throw-in placed the ball in Green Bay's box, a one-touch flick pass from Medawattage helped create space for Corti who was able to find the Phoenix net after a shot to the upper right corner.
