GREEN BAY, Wis – The Green Bay volleyball team cruised to an easy 3-0 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon at the Kress Center, finishing the opening weekend of Horizon League action with a perfect 2-0 start. The Phoenix (6-7, 2-0 HL) needed a late rally to win the opening set 25-23, but then proceeded to pummel the Penguins (7-9, 0-2 HL) 25-11 and 25-13 for the straight-set victory.
Green Bay, following its 3-1 win over Oakland last night, found itself trailing 23-21 late in the first set after a YSU kill.
Lydia DeWeese would not allow her team to fall behind early, as she came through with two kills over the next four points won by the Phoenix for the win. YSU aided in the effort with a bad set and an attack that sailed out of bounds.
The second and third sets were fully controlled by Green Bay, opening up a 16-6 lead in the second set and a 15-5 lead in the third set. The Phoenix connected on a impressive .417 clip in the third set and held YSU to a .000 percentage in the final set as well.
