Four Goals Lift Green Bay Past Chicago State, 4-1

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – A dominant effort on both sides of the field secured a 4-1 Phoenix victory over visiting Chicago State on Friday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium. Green Bay received four goals from its offense, its highest mark since the 2015 season when the squad found the back of the net seven times against Chicago State. All four goals came from a different member of the Phoenix squad.

Green Bay controlled the match from the very beginning, scoring in the 10th minute to claim an early lead and never looking back. All told, the Phoenix tallied 26 shots on the afternoon and placed half of those on goal. The Cougars were limited to just six shots in the contest and recorded only two on goal. Kennedy Bilse struck first for the Phoenix and was followed by teammates Carli Vogel, Alex Zeller and Kendra Wolfgram, all of which recorded their first goals of the season. Alyssa Barnes was a big contributor for the Phoenix offense and recorded two assists on the day.

GOAL SUMMARY

10' | GB | Kennedy Bilse (Assist: Alyssa Barnes): Barnes sent a ball into the box which Bilse was able to recover with enough space to get a shot off, placing one perfectly to the lower right side of the net and granting the Phoenix its first lead of the match.

18' | CSU | Mariela Alba (Assist: Jensyn Stanberry): After finding itself down early, the Cougars went into attack mode and managed to slip a shot past the Phoenix defense after Stanberry moved the ball from right to left and Alba sent a shot into the back right of the Phoenix net to tie the game, 1-1.

20' | GB | Carli Vogel (Assist: Alyssa Barnes): Barnes was on the far right side of the field and played a perfect ball to the center of the field with Bilse and Vogel on the attack for the Phoenix. The ball was played to the far side of the net, past Bilse and the Cougars keeper, and right to the foot of Vogel who finished the scoring effort with a perfectly placed shot.

62' | GB | Alex Zeller (Unassisted): Zeller controlled the ball past the backline of CSU and after the senior split a pair of defenders, she was able to beat the keeper left to increase Green Bay's advantage to two goals.

87' | GB | Kendra Wolfgram (Unassisted): The freshman for Green Bay worked from the left side of the box to the right and after creating enough space, fired a shot to the right side of the net to score the first goal of her Phoenix career.
