Green Bay Closes Out Homestand with Wire-to-Wire Win Over Cleveland State

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team wrapped up its homestand with a 3-0 record after taking down Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon, 69-43, in front of 2,441 fans at the Kress Center.

The Phoenix (14-2, 4-1) scored the first six points of the game on consecutive possessions in the opening minutes of action, eventually working to an 11-2 lead before forcing the Viking (11-6, 3-3) to call a timeout with 6:21 remaining in the quarter.

Not much would change as time continued to wind, with Green Bay constructing a 17-3 advantage after Jessica Lindstrom drained a three-pointer as time expired in the frame.

Green Bay continued to dominate on both ends of the floor deep into the second period of action, opening with a 16-2 run that granted Green Bay a 33-7 lead.  The Phoenix defense held the Vikings to just 12 first-half points, the lowest mark by a Green Bay opponent this season.

Cleveland State battled back in the third, outscoring the Phoenix 21-17 after closing with a 7-0 run. Green Bay, however, still carried a 52-33 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

The Phoenix closed the game out strong in the fourth, opening with a 7-0 run and eventually securing its 15th-consecutive win over CSU, 69-43.

The 69 points scored by the Phoenix is a season-best in the Horizon League slate.

Jessica Lindstrom led the Phoenix with 16 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds in 28 minutes. Lindstrom has now amassed 842 career rebounds at Green Bay, one shy of Julie Wojta's fifth-place mark of 843 on the program's all-time list.

Karly Murphy was the lone member of the Phoenix squad to join Lindstrom in double figures, as the redshirt freshman added 10 points in 22 minutes.

CSU's Jade Ely scored a game-high 17 points on a 4-for-8 shooting performance in 26 minutes. As a team, Cleveland State struggled to shoot from everywhere on the floor, finishing 12-for-46 (26.1%) from the field and 4-for-22 from beyond the arc.

Green Bay held an edge on the boards for the 14th game this season, outrebounding the Vikings 42-29. The Phoenix also held an advantage in points in the paint (40-8), points off turnovers (22-8), second-chance points (16-9) and fast break points (6-0).

Green Bay will return to the road for its next matchup, traveling to Indianapolis, Ind., for its first pairing with IUPUI since the Jaguars joined the league. The game will tip at 6 p.m. on Monday night inside IUPUI's gymnasium, the Jungle.
