Team Notes

GOOD TO BE HOME

After playing its last four games on the road, Green Bay can finally look forward to playing back on its home floor at the Resch Center, where it will play its next five games. In its 10 home games this year, with GB winning 7 of those 10, four players are averaging in double-figures and the team is scoring 79.5 PPG with positive rebounding margin (+3.8) and turnover margin (+2.5). On the flip side, in its 10 road games, the Phoenix is averaging just 69.5 PPG with a -5.9 rebounding margin and -1.6 turnover margin. In those 10 road defeats, only two players are averaging in double-figures, showing the need for the team to be balanced in order to achieve success. Green Bay won't leave the city until February 2, playing out the rest of January at home.

BETTER WITH BALANCE

With three players finishing in double-figures in the loss at IUPUI on Friday night, Green Bay is now 2-9 in games when three players or less reach double-figures this season. When 5 players score 10 points or more, the Phoenix is a perfect 4-0. GB enjoyed a 2-0 start in Horizon League play with wins over Detroit Mercy and Oakland, in which both games the Phoenix had 5 players finish in double-figures. GB is also a perfect 5-0 when scoring 80 or more points and has not won a game (0-13) this season when scoring between 60 and 79 points.

ALL-TIME VS. MILWAUKEE

Green Bay has won four-straight games in the all-time series against the in-state rival Panthers, which dates all the way back to the first meeting on January 16, 1971, which GB also won. The Phoenix is 36-24 all-time and is an even better 21-9 all-time at home against Milwaukee. GB won 80-74 at home last year and cruised to an 80-56 victory at UWM Panther Arena. Linc Darner is 4-1 all-time against Milwaukee.

ON THE GRIND

By time the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 16 comes around, Green Bay will have already played 8 Horizon League games, the most of any team in the conference. Off to a 2-5 start, GB is tight on practice and preparation time, and has played the most amount of games of any Horizon League team. GB virtually plays every other day, having played 5 games over just a 10-day span to open Horizon League play, and played three more games following that over a 6-day span. The Phoenix will play 10 games in the month of January alone and will play only one home game over its last six games and only once in the month of February.

SMALL IN LARGE

Senior Khalil Small had his double-figure scoring streak end at 20 games in the loss at IUPUI, but is still averaging 17.1 PPG in HL play, which ranks fifth in the league. Small had scored 20+ points in three-straight games before scoring just seven points on Friday night. He still leads the team in scoring, rebounding (7.1 RPG), free throws (27), minutes (37.0 MPG) and 3s (10).

1,000 POINTS IS NOT SMALL

Khalil Small notched his 1,000th career point on Jan. 4, becoming just the 28th player in program history to reach that milestone. He has scored in double-figures in 19 of 20 games this year, the most double-figure scoring games by any HL player this season. Below is where Small ranks all-time in career scoring at UWGB:

20.          Mike King (1999-2004) – 1,154
21.          Tom Brown (1981-85) – 1,149
22.          Jerry Carstensen (1996-00) – 1,137
23.          Jordan Fouse (2012-16) – 1,136
24.          Terry Evans (2004-09) – 1,099
25.          Khalil Small (2014-18) - 1,074
26.          Dean Vander Plas (1987-91) – 1,050
27.          Tom Jones (1972-74) – 1,038
28.          James Bardney (1970-74) – 1,030

PATTERSON POWER

Even though he battled foul trouble all night and was able to log just 19 minutes, freshman Manny Patterson scored a career-high 14 points at IUPUI on Friday night. The Chicago-native shot an efficient 5-for-7 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line, while finishing two rebounds shy of a double-double.
