GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Joey Bourgeois found the back of the net in the 89th minute on Saturday afternoon to secure a 1-0 victory for the Green Bay men's soccer team over Central Arkansas at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
Â
It was one of the colder games this season for the Phoenix, with temps in the mid-40s and a strong wind adding to the chill. At the half, the two programs combined for only a single shot on-goal and were knotted at zero.
Â
Abrahm Hill and
Kevin Cela joined Bourgeois with shots in the match, while seven Bears notched attempts in the pairing with three of them placing marks on the Phoenix net, all of which were secured by the sure hands of Phoenix keeper
Nikola Kahvedzic.
Â
Kahvedzic protected the net in the clean sheet victory for all 90 minutes, tallying five saves on his way to securing his second win of the season.
Â
Central Arkansas owned a strong advantage in shots at 10-4, but the Phoenix made the most of its opportunities and managed to find the back of the net with its lone attempt on-goal.
Â
Bourgeois' late game heroics came after the freshman dribbled past a pair of defenders with time winding down to beat the Bears' keeper with a shot to the far side of the net in the 89th minute. Green Bay improved to 6-4-2 following the win while UCA fell to 5-5-2 on the season.
