GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – For the 11th-consecutive year, the Green Bay women's basketball has been tabbed the Horizon League's preseason favorite, as announced by the league office on Thursday morning. Jen Wellnitz was the lone Phoenix recognized on the preseason all-league teams, receiving a first-team nod from conference coaches, media members and SIDs.

High expectations have become a common occurrence for a Green Bay team fresh off its 20th-straight conference championship and 18th NCAA Tournament appearance, with Head coach Kevin Borseth's Phoenix squad receiving 28 of the 29 first-place votes in the poll and accumulating 286 points to lead the nearest school by 41 (IUPUI).

Wellnitz earns the preseason recognition after back-to-back seasons on the Horizon League's all-defensive team, with her most recent campaign ending with Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Green Bay owned the nation's best statistical defense in the country a season ago, allowing a lowly 47.4 PPG. The Phoenix was the only program in the nation to hold opposing teams to lower than 50 points per game.

The Green Bay women's basketball team will take the court for exhibition action on Wednesday, Oct. 24 against UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m. The Phoenix officially opens the season on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at home against Northwestern at 7 p.m.
