Green Bay Volleyball Matches Best League Start Since 2003, Sweeps Jaguars 3-0

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay volleyball team (13-8, 8-1 HL) swept the IUPUI Jaguars (5-18, 2-7 HL) in straight sets amidst a roaring crowd that turned out for Alzheimer's Awareness Night. The Phoenix improved to 8-1 in the league, tying the 2003 team for best conference start in program history.

Green Bay 3, IUPUI 0
The Phoenix started off their first set strong, going on a 9-3 scoring run before the Jaguars called a timeout to end their momentum. After that, IUPUI started to creep up on Green Bay, but they were never able to come close enough to tie or pass, and the Phoenix ended the set with four points in a row, including an ace from serving senior Austyn Everingham.

Sets two and three were tighter, especially in the beginning of each game. In the second, IUPUI was able to get a two-point lead at 9-11, their largest of the entire match, but after a quick timeout, Green Bay only allowed the Jaguars to score four more time in the set. Set three was also a battle, but after tying at 13-13, freshman Alexandra Zakutney grabbed a clutch kill and then teamed up with sophomore Anna Eaton for the block, and IUPUI couldn't recover.

Green Bay played deep throughout the defense and the offense tonight, showing the team's growth. Sophomore Taylor Wolf picked up her twelfth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs. Right behind her, Zakutney hammered down 9 kills, and senior sister Jessica Wolf collected 8. Sophomore Ashley Sledge took home 6 kills of her own, tying the top attacking Jaguar. Defensively, senior Vanessa Buman scooped up 18 digs, followed by classmate Everingham with 14, one more than the leading IUPUI libero.

Next Game
The Phoenix will be back at home tomorrow afternoon as they look to take down Northern Kentucky, the only Horizon League team that has been able to defeat Green Bay so far this season. The first serve is at 4:00 p.m.
