GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) —- The Green Bay men's soccer team celebrated Senior Night with a victory over No. 16 Wright State on Saturday at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
Tomer Zloczower found the back of the Raiders net in the 80th minute to seal a 1-0 Phoenix victory.
Wright State (12-2-1, 5-1-1) was handed just its second loss of the season and first in league play following the result. The only other defeat the WSU suffered in 2018 was when it visited No. 6 Virginia and fell 2-1. Saturday night's matchup was the first time this season the Raiders were held scoreless.
The result marked Green Bay's first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No 24 Milwaukee in 2013.
"This time of year you have to be able to step up in crucial games," head coach
Jeremy Bonomo said. "Our guys played well tonight. I'm proud of their effort but there's still work to be done."
Zloczower's goal was his sixth of the season and it was assisted by teammate
Karim Lauba, who connected with Zloczower as he broke through the backline and put him in place for a one-on-one with the keeper.
Green Bay (8-4-2, 4-2-1) controlled the majority of the match, recording 13 shots to Wright State's nine and earning 10 corner kicks while allowing only five. Phoenix keeper
Nikola Kahvedzic was only challenged a couple of times and recorded saves on both occasions.
Nine members of the team tallied shots for GB, with four of them placing attempts on-goal.
Green Bay wraps up the regular season next Friday at Oakland with kickoff in Rochester, Mich., slated for 6 p.m.
