GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season on Friday evening at Oakland, falling to the Golden Grizzlies in overtime 1-0. The Phoenix will now prepare to host No. 5 IUPUI on Monday at Aldo Santaga Stadium in the Horizon League Tournament Quarterfinals with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
"We were forced to make adjustments after a red card caused us to play down a man an entire half and overtime," head coach
Jeremy Bonomo said. "We still had ample opportunities to win tonight and that speaks volumes about the group we have here. Anytime it's the final game of the regular season and you have a chance to win the regular season title, you've had a quality season, and in our case a top-four finish. I am looking forward to watching our guys take the field for a home playoff game Monday night."
Green Bay earned the No. 4 seed in the Horizon League tournament and advanced to the league's playoffs for the third-consecutive season. Monday's matchup will be the first playoff game hosted by GB in the newly-constructed Aldo Santaga Stadium and the first time since 2011 the Phoenix has hosted a postseason match.
Green Bay concludes the regular season with an 8-5-2 overall record and a 4-3-1 record in conference play. Wright State and UIC earned the top two seeds and secured byes to the semifinals which will be hosted by the Raiders. The other quarterfinals matchup will take place in Rochester, Mich., between Oakland and Milwaukee on Monday night.
