Men's Soccer Rallies in Second Half to Earn Draw at Detroit Mercy, 2-2

DETROIT, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw at Detroit Mercy on Saturday afternoon, scoring two goals in the second half to come from behind and secure the tie.

After being forced to play from behind due to a pair of first-half goals from the Titans, the Phoenix buckled down in the second half and managed to even the match at two-all after Clay Brown scored his second goal of the season on a give-and-go with teammate Joey Bourgeios in the 48th minute.

Green Bay continued to apply pressure after the early score in the second half and forced an own goal by the Titans defense. After the score was knotted at two, both defenses locked down and held the opposing offenses off the board through regulation and the following overtime periods.

The pairing saw both squads tally 11 total shots, with UDM owning a slight advantage over GB in shots-on-goal, 6-5. The bout proved to be a physical one, with the two teams combining for 32 total fouls and three yellow cards.

Phoenix keeper Nikola Kahvedzic recorded four saves while protected the net through all 110 minutes.

Green Bay moved to 5-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in HL play, while the Titans picked up their first draw of the league season and improve to 0-4-1 in conference action.

"We showed great backbone today clawing our way back into the game after going down two goals in the first half," head coach Jeremy Bonomo said. "We've been missing that determination. Now, we need to put it all together moving forward."

Green Bay returns to the pitch for a matchup with in-state rival Wisconsin on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Madison.
