GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay women's soccer team faced one of its toughest tests of the five-game Horizon League season on Saturday afternoon, taking on Cleveland State in Cleveland, Ohio, and falling 5-0 in the matchup.
The Vikings protected its undefeated league record in the pairing and moved to 8-4-1 overall combined with a 4-0-1 mark in conference action. CSU notched its fifth shutout of the season against the Phoenix and improved upon what was already the best start to HL play in program history. Cleveland State is one of three teams remaining which boasts an undefeated record in Horizon League play.
It didn't take long for the Vikings to find the back of the net in the matchup, as Sarah Krause granted the home team a 1-0 edge in just the seventh minute of play. The advantage doubled in the 29
th minute when GB surrendered an own-goal.
The Vikings went on to add three goals in the second half of action and hold the Phoenix scoreless to secure the clean sheet in the victory. CSU benefited from a 15-3 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on-goal. It was apparent Cleveland State was on the attack for the vast majority of the pairing with a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
GB falls 2-10-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in league play following the road loss.
Green Bay will return to the field for another Horizon League matchup on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. when the Phoenix welcomes Detroit Mercy to Aldo Santaga Stadium.
