Jessica Wolf Hits 1,000-Kill Milestone in Last Away Match of the Regular Season

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay Phoenix volleyball (15-10, 10-3 HL) fell in a heartbreaking contest to Oakland (10-15, 6-8 HL) this evening in their final away match of the regular season. Though the loss was tough, there were good showings throughout the match, including senior Jessica Wolf's 1,000th career kill.

Oakland 3, Green Bay 2
The first two sets (22-25 each) were very similar, riddled with errors as the Phoenix could not seem to nail their attacks. The team could not seem to finish the match despite being neck-and-neck with their opponents just a couple points away from the magic number 25.

However, the Phoenix rose from the ashes in set three, allowing only one Golden Grizzly kill within the last nineteen plays. Sophomore Taylor Wolf smashed 8 kills alone in the set to carry the team to a dominant 25-15 set win, changing the momentum going into the fourth. Set number four (25-17) continued the strong showing, with Green Bay tallying five blocks while holding Oakland to none, led by sophomore Anna Eaton with eight total throughout the night, only one off of her season-high.

The fifth set was the heartbreaker, as the Phoenix again were not able to follow through with their attacks. They only made one kill out of their 27 attempts in their final effort.

Junior Maddie Yoss was all over the court this evening, holding together the team both offensively and defensively. She notched her 10th double-double of the season with 43 assists and a season-high 21 digs. Meanwhile, the younger Wolf was truly fierce, collecting 22 kills, the most she's made since early September. She put up 12 digs for a double-double as well.

This evening also gave the elder Wolf a momentous 1,000 career kills. She needed five to make it to the milestone, but pushed it even further, earning 10 throughout the match. Sophomore Ashley Sledge was the other Phoenix attacker to make it to double-digit kills

Next Game
Green Bay will finish out the season with three home matches. The first will be played this Sunday, November 4thagainst Wright State, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
