GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team secured its 20th win of the 2017-18 campaign tonight, downing league-foe Northern Kentucky 58-41 to extend its streak of at least 20 wins to 19 seasons. The team was led by the trio of
Jessica Lindstrom,
Allie LeClaire and
Frankie Wurtz who each finished with 13 points.
Green Bay's best offensive frame came in the opening quarter, with the Phoenix (20-2, 10-1 HL) outscoring the Norse (5-17, 3-8 HL) 17-8 after six points from Wurtz and a total of 16 points scored in the paint for Green Bay.
The Phoenix struggled from beyond the arc, sinking just three of its 22 attempts but made up for the lack of production by outscoring NKU 38-14 in the paint.
Green Bay increased its lead in the second quarter despite scoring only 10 points, with its stingy defense holding the Norse to single digits for the second-straight period and owning a 27-14 lead heading into the locker room.
Northern Kentucky used a 7-2 run in the first two minutes of the third to cut the deficit to single digits, 29-21, before the Phoenix ended the quarter back-to-back baskets to regain the double-digit edge, 42-30.
Any hope of a Norse comeback quickly disappeared in the final frame, as Wurtz sent a three-pointer through the Phoenix net on the first possession. LeClaire followed suit minutes later with her second triple of the game, increasing Green Bay's advantage to 15 points, 48-33, with 6:59 to play.
The Phoenix held off all Norse advances and claimed a 58-41 wire-to-wire win over Northern Kentucky to move to 10-1 in Horizon League play.
Lindstrom secured her 11
th double-double of the season after pulling down 11 rebounds to go along with her 13 points. The forward also doled out three assists and collected one steal in 37 minutes.
Madison Wolf finished with an efficient stat line for the Phoenix, scoring seven points on 3-of-5 shooting in 20 minutes.
Green Bay enjoyed advantages in points off turnovers (11-3), second-chance points (13-7), fast break points (4-0) and bench points (26-15).
Green Bay's focus will now shift to Saturday's matchup with Wright State at the Kress Center for the annual Pink Zone game at 1 p.m. The Phoenix will also welcome back former members of the program for Alumni Day.
