BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Taking the diamond on the second day in the Hoosier Classic, the Green Bay softball team suffered its third defeat of the weekend after falling 10-2 at Andy Mohr Field to Northern Illinois in five innings.
Northern Illinois 10, Green Bay 2 (F/5)
The Huskies (8-18) scored at least one run in every inning of play on Saturday afternoon, jumping out to a 1-0 lead after hold the Phoenix (2-15) scoreless in the first frame.
The second inning mirrored the first, with NIU increasing its advantage to 2-0 after keeping Green Bay off the board once again after a single scored the Huskies' Bekah Harnish from second base.
The Huskies added on to their lead in the third inning when Alayne Woollard homered to right field with the bases loading, granting NIU a 6-0 edge.
The Phoenix responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth after
Olivia Magaldi singled to center field, scoring
Crystal Guzman and
Emily Madeiros and cutting the deficit to four runs.
The efforts would prove to be in vain as the Huskies scored four runs in the next two innings to enforce the eight-run rule and claim a 10-2 victory in five innings.
