Green Bay Falls in League Opening Doubleheader at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Horizon League play began on Friday afternoon for the Green Bay softball team, with the Phoenix traveling to Dayton, Ohio, for a doubleheader with Wright State. Green Bay lost a tight game, 1-0, to open play with the Raiders before later falling 12-3 in five innings.

Kayla Schwebke was in the circle to start Horizon League play for Green Bay, putting in five innings of work and striking out two batters. Schwebke allowed four hits and only one earned run in the contest.

The lone Raiders' run touched the plate in the fifth inning after WSU's Whitaker brought Susor around to score on a fielder's choice.

Green Bay was unable to get on the board in game one despite a pair of hits, falling 1-0 to open conference play.

Wright State 12, Green Bay 3
After a low-scoring affair in which both teams combined to score one run, game two took a different turn. Wright State totaled 12 runs while Green Bay tallied only three, enforcing the eight-run rule after the fifth inning.
 
Emily Madeiros finished with the only multi-hit game for the Phoenix, while the two RBIs were garnered by Chyanne Onstad and Olivia Magaldi.
 
Wright State scored two runs in the first inning, but after Green Bay cuts it advantage in half in the third, the Raiders scored eight runs in the bottom of the inning to take control of the game.
 
The Phoenix was unable to put runs on the board and extend the game into the sixth and seventh innings, falling 12-3 in game two of the doubleheader.

LP: Elizabeth Pautz (1-4)

Green Bay will wrap up its first league series of the season tomorrow morning against Wright State, with the first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
