LAWRENCE, Kan. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay softball team opened the Jayhawk Invitational with matchups against Nebraska and Tulsa on Friday in Lawrence, Kan. The Phoenix (1-11) suffered defeats in both pairings, falling to the Huskers 7-0 and the Golden Hurricane 11-2.

The Huskers (12-7) got right to work in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs off one hit and one Phoenix error. The bases were loaded for the Big Ten team after a single and a pair of walks.
The Huskers extended their lead to 4-0Â in the third after Nebraska's Kaylan Jablonski was able to touch home on a wild pitch. The one-sided affair continued into the fourth inning where two more runs touched the plate for the Huskers.Â
Green Bay extended the game to the sixth and seventh innings after Nebraska put the game-winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the fifth, nearly enforcing the mercy rule, but
Elizabeth Pautz was able to get the final batter to fly out to center and grant Green Bay more appearances at the plate.
The Phoenix was unable to bring any runners around to score, falling 7-0 in its first action of the Jayhawk Invitational. Green Bay did manage to amass six hits, falling just short of Nebraska's seven.
