HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Returning to the diamond for Horizon League play, the Green Bay softball team battled Northern Kentucky on the road in a game that was forced to change sites due to a snowstorm in Green Bay. The Phoenix (9-26, 6-5 HL) opened the series with a 6-3 victory, largely in part to a three-run homer from
Allie Hislope.
GREEN BAY 6, NORTHERN KENTUCKY 3
The Phoenix jumped out to an early lead in the opening frame after a single to center field from
Olivia Magaldi with the bases loaded scored
Chyanne Onstad.
The Norse (17-19, 4-10 HL) didn't take long to respond, plating one run in the following inning to knot the game. Green Bay took control of the game once again in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from Onstad and a three-run home run from Hislope to garner a 5-1 edge for Green Bay.
After NKU scored in the fourth to double its run total, the Phoenix added an insurance run after a swing from
Morgan Bihun sent the ball to right field and allowed Onstad to touch home, bringing Green Bay's lead to 6-2.
NKU added one more run in the sixth, but the Phoenix held on for the 6-3 victory and moved to 6-5 in Horizon League play.
