GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – With the Green Bay volleyball program entering its 35^th season in program history, first-year head coach Abbey Sutherland has released her team's schedule for the upcoming 2018 campaign. The Phoenix, coming off an NIVC Quarterfinal bid from a season ago, will play in four preseason tournaments before opening Horizon League play on Sept. 21.

"It's an exciting time of year to announce our schedule. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, we are focused on being the best teammates possible. We want to do the right thing on and off the court. We want to represent Phoenix Country with pride, and create a special culture within Phoenix Volleyball. We hope that by doing things the right way, we will make Phoenix fans proud when they come and watch us compete," said Sutherland.

GB will play its first 16 matches away from home, before playing in its HL and home-opener on Friday, October 5, against Oakland. Five of the first six league games will also be on the road for the Phoenix, which lost in the HL tournament championship for the second-straight season last year.

"We need to be put in challenging situations to be prepared for Horizon League play, as that's when we will learn the most about our team's strengths and weaknesses. We will take every match as an opportunity to learn about where we are at with team culture and team chemistry," said Sutherland

The team will play in early season tournaments at TCU (Aug. 24-26), at South Dakota State (Aug. 31-Sept. 1), at Indiana State (Sept. 7-8) and at Minnesota (Sept. 13-14).

"Our non-conference schedule will test us and challenge us in a number of ways, and we are excited about that," said Sutherland. "We will be on the road, and on top of that, we have four opponents that are in the top 100 RPI."

GB will play an exhibition match at home against Winona State on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Kress Center. Admission will be free and will offer fans a first look at the 2018 squad before they hit the road for the start of the regular season.

The team will play 28 total matches during the regular season, with eight of those being played at the Kress Center. The 2018 Horizon League Championship will be held at the site of the No. 1 seed and will take place on Nov. 16-18.

A full promotional schedule including ticket specials, concession specials and other Green Bay volleyball special events will be released later this summer. Fans can purchase a Fall Sports Pass for $35, which grants access to all volleyball and men's and women's soccer home games. "We have team goals, but it's important that we look at the season as a process. Are we going to keep getting better? Are we going to stay big when things get tough? How are we going to come back after setbacks?" said Sutherland.
