Nellie Schafer Named Director of Player Development for Women's Basketball

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Head coach Kevin Borseth has announced the hiring of Nellie Schafer as the Director of Player Development for the Green Bay women's basketball program. Schafer's role with the team will relate to player management, program operations and assisting in the setup of on-campus recruiting and coordinating official and unofficial visits for potential recruits.

"We are excited to welcome Nellie back to Green Bay," Borseth said. "She is very passionate about our community, university and program, which makes her a perfect fit. Her experiences and familiarity with our program will benefit her in her new role as the Director of Player Development."

Schafer most recently served as the director of basketball operations at Winthrop University and was responsible for all day-to-day activities of the women's basketball program.
Prior to her arrival at Winthrop, Schafer enjoyed success at the University of Connecticut, where she experienced two national championships as the assistant video coordinator with the UCONN women's basketball program.

Schafer also served as social media & marketing specialist with the Huskies' women's soccer program, covering the program through numerous NCAA Tournament appearances. Schafer served as head team manager for four years as a student at UW-Green Bay, a stint which included NCAA Tournament appearances and assisting with operations.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to return to my alma mater," Schafer said. "UWGB is a place full of incredible people that helped me grow immensely during my undergraduate career. It's even sweeter to be coming home to the Green Bay Women's Basketball Program. This program helped lay the foundation for my career within intercollegiate athletics and I can't wait to build on it."

Schafer earned a bachelor's degree in education from UW-Green Bay in 2014, before going on to complete her master's degree in sports management at the University of Connecticut.
"I look forward to giving back to the coaching staff, the incredibly supportive Green Bay community and our team. I hope to help these young women realize their full potential on and off the court. I'm thrilled that I'll be able to go back to the place and the people that helped shape me."
