FORT WORTH, Tex. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay volleyball team (1-3) took on North Dakota (1-2) this morning in a nonconference match, battling in each and every set (25-23, 25-21, 25-20), but failing to take one for their own.
North Dakota 3, Green Bay
The final score may not completely reflect the efforts of the Phoenix this morning, fighting and staying close to the Fighting Hawks throughout the entire match in possibly one of the most intense games of the entire weekend. There were several times where Green Bay rallied to catch or pass North Dakota, forcing timeouts successfully.
However, especially at the end of each set, the Fighting Hawks would manage to build enough of a lead to seal the deal. The opponents finished with 50 kills in the match, compared to Green Bay's 38. The Phoenix hit just .192, thanks to a defensive line at the net for North Dakota that only got more solid as each set progressed.
For Green Bay, sophomore
Taylor Wolf led the team in kills with 13 overall, only one kill behind the Fighting Hawks' leader. She was followed by freshman
Alexandra Zakutney with a season-high 10. For the second day in a row, it was again sophomore
Ashley Sledge who held the highest hitting percentage for both teams, coming away with .556.
Next Game
The Phoenix will be heading to Brookings, South Dakota next weekend for the Jackrabbits Invitational. On Friday, the women will face Weber State at 12:00 p.m., followed by a match against Seattle at 4:30 p.m. The tournament will come to an end at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, with Green Bay taking on hosts South Dakota State.
