BROOKINGS, S.D. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay women's volleyball team (3-4) took down hosts South Dakota State (0-6) 3-0 this afternoon at the Comfort Suites Jackrabbit Invitational, quite possibly in one of the strong matches of the season thus far.

In each set (25-15, 25-14, 25-15), the Phoenix kept the Jackrabbits from taking a lead, starting the game off strong and never looking back. Not only was the defense dominate, but the offense was also accurate. While the Jackrabbits performed only two less attack attempts than Green Bay, their hitting percentage was a mere .101, while the Phoenix boasted a .306. There were multiple moments throughout the match where Green Bay went on a scoring run, reaching 6-0 in both the first and second sets and 5-0 in the third.
Again, sophomore
Taylor Wolf was the offensive leader in the entire game, with a season-high 21 kills, a season-high hitting percentage of .463, and a point total of 23.5 She also contributed to three block assists and nine assists, showing her proficiency on both sides of the coin. Freshman
Alexandra Zakutney also played better than any of her opponents, taking 13 kills of her own, while junior
Maddie Yoss put up a season-high 42 assists, one more than the 41 she made against Seattle the day before.
Green Bay also showed promise with its team-wide defensive consistency this afternoon. In terms of digs, senior
Vanessa Buman lead with 17, while Yoss and senior
Austyn Everingham also made it into the double digits. Yoss owned her first double-double of the season with 11. In terms of blocks, the Phoenix helped each other to 6 total, with Wolf, sophomore
Ashley Sledge, and sophomore
Anna Eaton each contributing with 3 block assists.
Wolf was named the MVP of the tournament, while Yoss and Sledge joined her on the All-Tournament team. Despite falling to Weber State 3-2 on Friday, the Phoenix bested Seattle 3-0 and Seattle in turn beat Weber State 3-0, ultimately giving Green Bay the tournament victory.
Next Game
Green Bay will take on its third tournament of the season next weekend, traveling to Terre Haute, Indiana to participate in the Sycamore Invitational, hosted by Indiana State. On Friday, September 7, they will face Central Michigan and Indiana State, followed by a match with Saint Louis University on Saturday, September 8.
