Late Norse Goal Hands Phoenix First Loss of Season

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – A late goal from Northern Kentucky (6-1-0, 1-1-0) handed the Green Bay men's soccer team its first loss of the 2018 season and earned Northern Kentucky its first victory of Horizon League play.

"If you don't finish your chances and let a team hang around, you can and will lose at times," head coach Jeremy Bonomo said. "That's what happened tonight.  Credit to NKU for not giving in and getting the job done.  Hopefully we learn from this experience and become a better team moving forward."

Green Bay (4-1-1, 1-1-0) found the back of the net first on the evening, as Clay Brown granting the Phoenix an advantage in the 72nd minute of play after teammate Bernard Assibey Rhule corralled the ball and played it to the feet of Brown who was then able to beat the keeper for his first goal of the season.

Alex Willis evened the game at one-all for NKU in the 73rd minute after a rising up to finish a corner kick off his head and into the Green Bay net. The Norse waited until the 89th minute to strike again, as Rikard Lindqvist was able to beat the keeper low after Alex Greive centered the ball.

GB owned a hefty advantage in shots, 15-7, but a much smaller margin favored the Phoenix in shots-on-goal at 5-4. 

Green Bay takes a break from conference play for its next pairing at Aldo Santaga Stadium, as the squad welcomes Western Michigan to Aldo Santaga Stadium Wednesday at 7 p.m.
