GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) –
The Green Bay women's basketball program has announced the addition of graduate-transfer Carly Mohns, who will be eligible to play immediately in 2018-19. Mohns graduated from Iowa in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management and has begun working on her Master's degree at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay this fall.
"Initially I wasn't sure I was going to use my fifth year of eligibility, but after meeting with the team and coaches at Green Bay it seemed like the perfect place to finish my collegiate career," Mohns said. "I'm excited to return to my home state of Wisconsin and get back on the court for my final season."
A native of Brodhead, Wis., Mohns spent her undergraduate career at the University of Iowa. She had her best season in 2017-18 and helped the Hawkeyes to a 24-8 record as well as an appearance in the NCAA Tournament while taking the court in 30 games. In one of her best performances last season, Mohns grabbed nine points on a perfect 4-for-4 effort from the field and collected six rebounds in Iowa's win over No.19 Michigan.
Despite being listed as a forward, after teammate guards were sidelined in the middle of the season, she showed her ability to take on several roles by stepping into the open positions.
"Carly is a player we recruited out of high school very hard," head coach Kevin Borseth
said. "She played on the same AAU team as Jen Wellnitz
. Actually Carly's father and I have hunting camps a few miles apart up north. We told her during the recruiting process way back that she was a Green Bay kid. Having Carly on board this season will allow us to validate that statement. She is a multi-dimensional player who fills a role in our four spot, especially since we had so much movement in that spot since last season. We are thrilled to have Carly as a part of this year's squad."
Standing at 6'1", Mohns will join redshirt senior guards Laken James
and Jen Wellnitz
in their final year of eligibility with the Phoenix. Green Bay will be in search of its 21st-consecutive regular-season title this season and is coming off its 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The Green Bay women's basketball team will open the 2018-19 season with its first official practice tomorrow. The first live action the team will see comes in the form of an exhibition matchup with UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 24.
