Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Green Bay Falls to NKU in Four Sets in First Match of League Play

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay women's volleyball team (5-8, 0-1 HL) pushed Northern Kentucky (9-3, 1-0 HL) to four sets, but were unable to make it to five in the first match of Horizon League play this evening.

Northern Kentucky 3, Green Bay 1
The Phoenix struggled to make their attempts count throughout the match, taken down by a team that was both deep throughout its squad and able to come through with their kills. This can be shown by the attack numbers: the match resulted in four Norse players reaching double digits in kills, while only the sophomore Wolf and her sister, senior Jessica Wolf, did the same for Green Bay. The former collected 17, also performing a double-double with 15 digs, while the latter executed 12 in all.

The highlight of the match was the second set, where Green Bay came back from being four points behind during two different points the game. They tied up the Norse five times, taking the game at the end with three Taylor Wolf kills in a row to steal the set point and the set itself, 26-24.

The Phoenix defense was more even than its offense, with four surpassing ten digs: senior Vanessa Buman with 27, the younger Wolf, junior Emily Lautenschlager with 11, and senior Austyn Everingham with ten. Green Bay also bested Northern Kentucky in blocks, with ten total compared to NKU's nine. Sophomore Anna Eaton led the way for the blockers on the team with six block assists. Junior Maddie Yoss followed with four block assists and one block solo. The setter from Brookfield, Wisconsin, put together a well-rounded game, putting up 35 assists, three kills, and nine digs as well.

Next Game
The Phoenix will continue Horizon League play on the road tomorrow, looking for a win at 3:00 p.m. against the IUPUI Jaguars in Indianapolis, Indiana.
