Volleyball Earns First Horizon League Win Against IUPUI, 3-0

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay volleyball team (6-8, 1-1 HL) earned their first Horizon League win of the season this afternoon, taking down IUPUI (3-13, 0-2 HL) at their opponents' home arena 'The Jungle' in straight sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-11).

Green Bay 3, IUPUI 0
The Phoenix were in tune on both sides this afternoon, holding the Jaguars to a .092 hitting percentage throughout all three sets. They were helped by sophomore Taylor Wolf, who grabbed another double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs in just three sets.

In the first set, Green Bay was all about accuracy, taking eight less attempts than IUPUI but managing a match-high .393 clip. The women almost got too comfortable in their success, as second set was nearly a Jaguar comeback, stealing seven points to the Phoenix's three in the last ten plays. However, Green Bay forced IUPUI to a negative hitting percentage in the last set, grabbing ten more kills than the Jaguars at the end. The Phoenix ended the third set - and the match - with a dominating 6-0 scoring run.

The Phoenix offense was possibly the most even it has been in weeks: sophomore Ashley Sledge, freshman Alexandra Zakutney, and senior Jessica Wolf had 9, 8, and 7 kills, respectively, after the younger Wolf. In addition, Sledge grabbed the highest clip on the team with .500.

The defense was equally sound, with senior Vanessa Buman tying Wolf with 15 digs. They were followed by senior Austyn Everingham with 9 and junior Emily Lautenschlager with 8. Furthermore, sophomore Anna Eaton was a wall for Green Bay, matching her season-high total blocks with seven, her most since facing Saint Louis earlier in the month.

Next Game
The Phoenix will compete in two more road matches next weekend before playing at home. The women will take on Milwaukee on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. before heading to Chicago to face the UIC Flames at 2:00 p.m. the next day.
