GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – After tightly contested regulation and overtime periods, the Green Bay men's soccer team appeared to be on its way to a draw in its third matchup of the Horizon League campaign.
"It's not easy breaking down a well coached and disciplined defensive-minded team," head coach
Jeremy Bonomo said. "We had our chances tonight. A dangerous play in the box led to the PK. I was pleased that our guys didn't give in and fought until the very end."
The Phoenix continued its attack in the closing minutes of the match with IUPUI and was granted a penalty kick with just over a minute remaining in the second overtime period.
Tomer Zloczower managed to find the back of the net on the PK, earning GB three points on the weekend and granting the Phoenix a 2-1-0 record in league play with the win.
The victory for Green Bay snapped a two-game losing streak, while the Jaguars suffered their third-consecutive loss. The Phoenix owned a 16-8 advantage in total shots and enjoyed a 7-1 edge in shots-on-goal.
Zloczower scored his fourth goal of the season on the penalty kick and improved to a perfect three-for-three on PKs.
The Phoenix will be back in action this Tuesday when the team welcomes Purdue Fort Wayne to the pitch for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
