GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The 2018-19 season officially opened on Tuesday afternoon, as the Green Bay women's basketball team held its first practice of the season at the Kress Events Center.
Head coach
Kevin Borseth enters his seventh season in his second stint with the Phoenix and is fresh off leading the program to its 20th-straight Horizon League Championship and 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The first practice also begins the countdown to Green Bay's season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at home against Northwestern. The Phoenix will host UW-Stevens Point (Oct. 24) and UW-Eau Claire (Oct. 30) in exhibition play leading up to the start of the season.
2018-19 PHOENIX FACTS
The Phoenix boasted the best statistical defense in the nation last season, allowing a lowly 47.4 points per game. The mark is a new program record and over a full three points ahead of the nation's second best average from Central Arkansas at 50.9.
The program graduated nearly 45% of its scoring from last season, as the squad bid farewell to
Jessica Lindstrom and
Allie LeClaire, both of which are currently playing in the professional ranks overseas.
With the 2017-18 winning record, the team now has 41-consecutive winning seasons, trailing only Tennessee (45) in active winning-season streaks.
Green Bay has tallied 19 consecutive 20-plus win seasons dating back to 1999-00.
The 2017-18 postseason marked the 21st consecutive postseason appearance.
Green Bay recently added graduate-transfer
Carly Mohns to the roster. Mohns comes to the Phoenix from Iowa and will be eligible to play immediately in 2018-19.
Also new to the Phoenix roster in 2018-19 will be freshmen
Hailey Oskey (
