HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Coming from behind on the road, the Green Bay men's soccer team scored three goals in a 19-minute span to defeat Northern Kentucky, 3-2, and pick up a critical three points in the Horizon League standings.
The Phoenix, who entered the contest in a tie for sixth place with NKU in the conference standings, now sits at 3-3 in league play and has sole possession of fourth place after piecing together three-consecutive victories over HL opponents.
GB trailed the Norse early after a goal in the 11th minute of play granted the hosts an early advantage, but the Phoenix responded with the equalizer late in the first half when
Villi Kaldal found the back of the net in the 40th minute.
It didn't take long for Green Bay to take the lead in the second half after
Clay Brown was assisted by
Michael Carreon in the 54
th minute. The Phoenix added an insurance goal minutes later, as
Marcus Del Vecchio scored his second goal of the season in the 59th minute.
The Norse cut the deficit to one goal in the 65th minute, but GB kept them off the board in their search for the equalizer and picked up a 3-1 decision on the road.
Green Bay returns home next weekend for Senior Day, as the Phoenix welcomes Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
