MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay women's soccer team battled in-state rival Milwaukee on the road Wednesday night, falling to the league-leading Panthers 1-0.
The Green Bay defense held MKE in check throughout the matchup, holding the Panthers to only one goal in the contest for its second-lowest scoring total of the season. Milwaukee entered the matchup averaging more than three goals per game.
Green Bay held the Panthers scoreless for nearly the entire first half, until Mackenzie Schill sent a header off the post and into the Phoenix net after a long serve from teammate Gaby Schwartz in the 41
st minute.
Sage Nelson led the Phoenix offense with two shots on goal, while
Alexa Bentley notched the other GB attempt.
Courtney Klatt and
Claudia Janese split work between the posts for Green Bay and each notched two saves.
Green Bay nearly matched the high-powered Panthers' offense in shots on goal, notching three compared to MKE's five on the evening.
Milwaukee is the last remaining unbeaten team in the Horizon League at 3-0. Followed by Wright State, IUPUI and UIC who all own records of 2-1.
Green Bay returns to action on Sunday at Aldo Santaga Stadium, welcoming Wright State for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
