New Mexico Pulls Away from Green Bay in Second Half, Visits Wisconsin Next Week

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- A few key possessions might have been the difference for Green Bay on Wednesday night at The Pit, coming up empty on them before falling behind New Mexico and losing 93-78 in its first game of the Roman Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper. The upset-minded Phoenix (1-2) were looking to earn a road win not many teams do, as the Lobos (3-0) used a 9-0 run crossing the 5:00 minute mark that made the deficit much too large.

PJ Pipes tied his career-high with 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including three made 3-pointers. He also had a pair of steals and three assists, having now scored 34 points total in his last two games. JayQuan McCloud led the way offensively with 20 points, but he needed 20 shots to get there as the New Mexico defense had a hand in his face throughout the night. He dished out seven assists.

Trailing by only seven in the second half, Green Bay had four-straight defensive stops but came up empty on each possession offensively. Missed shots and turnovers, gave the Lobos the momentum back and proved to be the difference in the end.

Green Bay visits Wisconsin next Thursday (Nov. 21) in its second game of the Legends Classic, making the short trip down to Madison. Tip will be at 8 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
