Green Bay Rallies during the Fifth Set in Victory over UIC

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---The Green Bay volleyball team (20-7, 12-3 HL) defeated UIC in their final regular-season home match at the Kress Center this evening (25-9, 25-21, 15-25, 21-25, 17-15).

The Phoenix went the distance tonight against the Flames.  The squad was hot in set one (25-9), hitting a scorching .552 percentage and tallying 17 kills.  The second set (25-21) was much closer, seeing the score tied 6 different times and two lead changes.  Nonetheless, Green Bay took a 2-0 lead in the match. Junior Taylor Wolf led the way in the second set with 7 kills.  The Phoenix only had a combined 2 attack-errors during the first two set.

During the third set (15-25), the offense went cold, with the team hitting -.059 while also committing 10 attack-errors.  The fourth set was a little better for Green Bay, but the Flames had their best set of the match with a .275 hitting percentage and recording 15 kills.

With the match knotted up at 2-2, the fifth set (17-15) went the way for the Phoenix.  However, Green Bay battled the whole way and had to fight off match points two different times from UIC.  While trailing 13-14, an attack-error from the Flames tied the match back up.  UIC took the next point, but junior Kristen Paulus equalized for Green Bay.  With the set at 15-15, back-to-back kills from junior Ashley Sledge gave the Phoenix the victory.

Taylor Wolf led the way offensively with a season-high 25 kills while owning a .339 hitting percentage for the match.  Sophomore Shannon Coughlin followed Wolf with 12 kills and Kristen Paulus added 10 herself.

Defensively, four different members of the squad contributed double-digit digs on the night.  Freshman libero Annelise Sparks logged 18, while Taylor Wolf tallied 14 to earn a double-double on the night.  As a team, Green Bay had 6 total-blocks.

In their final regular-season match at the Kress Center, seniors Emily Lautenschlager and Maddie Yoss were poised and performed at the highest level on their senior night.  Lautenschlager finished with a season-high 18 digs, 2 aces and an assist.  Yoss recorded 49 assist, 18 digs, 6 kills on 10 attacks, 4 block-assist and a solo-block.

Next Game
Green Bay will travel to Milwaukee on Saturday (November 16th) for their regular-season finale.  First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT.
