Green Bay Falls in Regular-Season Finale at Milwaukee

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay volleyball team (20-8, 12-4 HL) was defeated in their season-finale at Milwaukee this evening.

Green Bay 2, Milwaukee 3
Despite the loss, junior Taylor Wolf had herself an impressive match.  Wolf recorded a season-high 25 kills while hitting at a .321 clip, 15 digs, 3 assists, to long along with an ace and block-assist.  Senior setter Maddie Yoss followed suit for top-level performances by logging 51 assists, 16 digs, 5 kills and 2 block-assist.  Junior Ashley Sledge contributed 14 kills while hitting .258 and sophomore Shannon Coughlin added 12 kills for the Phoenix as well.

Defensively, senior Emily Lautenschlager followed up her great performance Friday night with an even better one today by recording a season-high 22 digs.  Freshman libero Annelise Sparks had double-digit digs as well for Green Bay with 13.  At the net, junior Anna Eaton and Ashley Sledge each tallied 5 block-assist.

The Phoenix trailed early in set one (25-22) 3-10 but went on a 6-0 run to get themselves right back into it.  The score was 9-11 in favor of Milwaukee when the squad rallied off a 5-0 run to give them the lead at 14-11.  The two teams went back in forth but with the score at 24-22, Maddie Yoss had a perfectly placed dump to give Green Bay the first set.  Taylor Wolf led in the team in kills with 6, while Ashley Sledge added another 5 for the Phoenix.

Set two (22-25) had the Panthers come from behind to tie the match up at 1-1.  Green Bay led the majority of the set, but with score at 19-13, Milwaukee went on 7-0 run to take the lead.  Shannon Coughlin tied the set at 20-20, but the Panthers rallied off four-straight points to go up.  The team responded with back-to-back kills from Alexis Dorner and Taylor Wolf, but ultimately, Milwaukee took the set.

The third set (18-25) saw the Panthers take the 2-1 lead in the match.  This was the set to forget for the Phoenix, with the team committing 10 attack-errors, 4 receiving-errors, and 2 service-errors.  Green Bay began to find their mojo again late in the third, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

The Phoenix composed themselves in the fourth set (25-22) and tied the match to send the two teams to a fifth set.  The fourth set was pretty even on both sides with Green Bay leading 13-11 at the midway point.  With the score at 23-22 in favor of the Phoenix, a service error from the Panthers and a block-assist from Shannon Coughlin and Anna Eaton gave Green Bay the set.

Set five (13-15) went the way of the Panthers.  The Phoenix were up 5-1 to begin the set but a few kills from Milwaukee and a couple attack-errors from Green Bay saw the set draw even at 9-9.  The two sides traded off points, but with the set at 12-12, the Panthers took three of the final four points to claim the match.
